Hit For Haiti - When Tennis Stars Gathered For a Noble Cause

HIT FOR HAITI


A day before the competition, a charity match called Hit for Haiti was held to raise fund to help casualties of the 2010 Haiti tremor. The occasion was proposed by Roger Federer and was sorted out in less than 24 hours. It was held in Rod Laver Arena at 2 pm and kept going around an hour and a half, tickets cost A$10 for adults and were free for kids under 12. Nine players took part, in two groups (named after the hues in the Haitian banner). Retired player and current TV analyst Jim Courier filled in as the umpire.

Players wore microphones amid play and contended in doubles, mixed doubles, and different courses of action. Group Red defeated Team Blue, 7– 6. Extra donations were requested at the occasion, and a few different players – including Marcos Baghdatis and Maria Sharapova – gave funds specifically.
